Manipura, the Sanskrit term for the Solar Plexus chakra, means “lustrous gem”. It is associated with the digestive system, spleen, pancreas, gall bladder, liver and adrenals. The main focus of this chakra is our personal power, and it is deeply connected to our self-esteem. The Solar Plexus chakra, like an inner sun, radiates fiery warmth through our being: it is the seat of our will power, and spurs us on to action.

An over-stimulated Solar Plexus Chakra can cause us to become aggressive, controlling and manipulative. Arrogance, competitiveness, stubbornness as well as violent outbursts indicate that this chakra is over energized.

When this chakra is deficient in energy, we may experience low self-esteem and low energy levels. We may suffer from poor self-discipline and difficulty with completing tasks. A victim mentality and passiveness are other indicators that this chakra is out of balance.

When this chakra is in balance we experience good self-esteem. We are responsible, reliable, disciplined and true to our word. We have the ability to make decisions and to follow through with necessary action. We also express and experience warmth, spontaneity, good humor and playfulness in our lives.
