Making of the Whale Song Wisdom Essence:

The very first message that I received from the white stinkwood trees of Platbos Forest in 2006 concerned the southern right whales that grace the waters of the Cape each year. It was more than a message – it was a sensation of being rooted and connected to all living things; I experienced myself as an integral part of the web of life. Since then I have felt a strong affinity with these gentle whales.

Whales are said to be the record keepers of all eternity; some say that whales and dolphins hold the highest level of consciousness on our planet. At the start of 2011, I dreamt of making a vibrational essence that would hold the energy, the spirit of the Southern Right Whales. I dowsed to check the details of how to go about it. I was guided to use both sea water and fresh water, and to include gem stones and a golden symbol of the ‘Flower of Life’. There were to be two gem stones, a turquoise: for protection and for facilitating communication from the heart, and a green and purple fluorite: for enabling the wisdom of spiritual awakening to enter the physical body and reside within the heart.

A “Mythos” drinking glass with a golden ‘Flower of Life’ held the gem stones and the fresh water. This symbol contains “All that Is” for within it are housed the Platonic Solids – the building blocks of the universe. Many cultures around the world, both ancient and modern, hold it as sacred.

I co-created “Whale Song Essence” on the spring solstice of September 2011. From a small rocky cove on the De Kelders coast line I collected icy sea water as the tide advanced. With me I had a bottle of fresh spring water from the valley where Platbos grows. I selected an outcrop of craggy rocks that were as close as possible to the open seas and placed the bowl of water in a natural crevice so that the deep vibrations of the whales could travel from the ocean, through the rock and into the essence bowl. It was a gorgeous day – still and golden – there were at least three different mother-calf groupings nearby but throughout the essence-making process, there was a particular group – a mother and her calf , along with a third adult female – who remained close by and curious. They quietly basked and floated in amongst the kelp, languid and peaceful.

I received the following message from the whales:

“The salt water of your tears connects us. We hold the Mother Energy. Here is grace, endurance and an awakening to the ancient knowledge. We hold and safe-guard the ancient teachings for you. This essence will bring protection and stamina to Light Workers, particularly when the going gets arduous and you feel as though you are losing momentum; know that you can draw on our strength. This essence will assist with accessing deep meditative states and the ability to tap directly into the ancient records that we hold”.

The Whales of Walker Bay

The Southern Right Whales are probably the most ancient of modern whales. Their mammalian ancestors evolved on the land, and then returned to the sea about 50 million years ago. These docile giants were named “Right Whales” by those whom hunted them because they were slow, curious and easy to kill. Fortunately, South Africa banned whale hunting in 1979. Since then, our waters have been a safe haven for these magnificent creatures and their numbers have increased considerably as a result. From July to November each year, the whales return to our rocky coast line to mate and birth their young. We are privileged to be able admire them from the rocks that jut out into the sea; sometimes mere metres separate us. If you sit quietly, you can hear and feel the hollow, echoing rumbles that the whales make as they exhale air and water through their blow holes. They love to sail their tails in the air and to leap with what can only be joyful abandon into the sky and then crash with mighty splashes back into the blue waters.

Whales and dolphins are highly intelligent. Very little is known about their complex brains, other than that they are remarkably similar to the human brain. They too have a well developed neocortex which is associated with cognitive thinking. Like humans, whales have complex social and behavioural patterns, and other than primates and elephants, they are the only other known creatures that weep tears when experiencing loss and sorrow.

Dr Bob Morris, a chemical oceanographer who spends his winter months in a paddle ski in the kelp forests just off the rocky coast line of Gansbaai, is observing and recording the southern right whales with a view to understanding how these mysterious animals communicate. Unlike the hump back whales that are extremely “talkative” and use high frequency sound to communicate, Dr Morris describes the southern rights as incredibly quiet; the few sounds that they do make are at a very low frequency. The more he listened to and analyzed their sounds, the more he realized how different the southern rights are from other whales. They communicate in a very complex yet minimalistic way; it is as though they try to say as much as possible in the shortest amount of time. He realized that as one whale started to communicate, within milliseconds, another whale would reply and then another and another – “it was as though” he said, “there was a room full of people all talking quietly at the same time.” The southern right whales are vulnerable to attacks by killer whales, particularly when they are birthing and nursing their young, so this quiet method of communication, in amongst the noisy kelp forests that flourish in the intertidal zones, is a vital means of survival for them . Dr Morris describes the southern rights as very, very gentle and curious; the most mysterious of all the whales…
